FAQ

The honest answers.

The questions we get asked most — about how we work, what you'll pay, what you walk away with, and the boring-but- important admin.

About Miaigi

Who's behind Miaigi?
Gareth Higginbotham — founder, technical lead, and the architect on every project. Miaigi is a Dexteritas Consulting Ltd business operating out of Farnham, Surrey, working with independent businesses across the UK.
What's the difference between SOFAKING and Miaigi Architecture?
SOFAKING is the productised platform — five proven blueprints (Starter, eCommerce, Admin, SaaS, Specialist) at fixed tier pricing, live in days. We're an authorised reseller. Miaigi Digital Architecture is the bespoke practice — discovery, blueprint, custom build for businesses whose problems don't fit a ready-made shape. See the full breakdown →
Where are you based?
Farnham, Surrey, UK. Most of our clients are in the south-east, but we work with independents UK-wide remotely. We'll meet in person where it makes sense — Hampshire, Surrey, London fringe.

Working together

How quickly can you build my site?
Standard SOFAKING blueprints typically ship in 1–3 weeks from kickoff. Bespoke architecture work takes 6–12 weeks depending on scope, with a discovery + blueprint phase up front so the build estimate is fixed before code is written.
How does discovery work?
For SOFAKING tiers: a 30-minute scoping call, then we send you the tier and quote. For Architecture: a 90-minute structured discovery (£495 fixed) — you leave the same week with a written architecture document. If the read-back doesn't reflect your practice, we rewrite it until it does.
Will I have direct access to the architect?
Yes. Gareth runs every project. No account managers between you and the person writing your spec, code and copy. Slack / phone / email — whichever channel suits.
What's included in monthly stewardship?
All tiers include hosting, SSL, automated backups, uptime monitoring, security patching, and small content updates as agreed. Higher tiers add managed socials, AI Brand Kit, automated ads, and a monthly performance review. Compare tiers →

Tech & code

What stack do you use?
Next.js (App Router) on TypeScript, Tailwind CSS for styling, Azure Static Web Apps for hosting, GitHub Actions for CI/CD. We're explicitly not a WordPress shop — every site is custom-built for speed, SEO and modern interaction patterns.
Do I own my code?
Yes. On the bespoke Architecture tier, the entire repository is yours — we hand over GitHub access on launch and you keep it. SOFAKING tiers run on shared platform infrastructure but the content, brand assets and configuration are entirely yours; you can take them with you any time.
Can you migrate my existing site?
Usually, yes. We migrate from WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, Webflow, GoDaddy and most other common platforms. Migration is scoped per project — we'll quote based on content volume and structural complexity.
How do you handle GDPR and data?
Hosting is in UK / EU regions. Forms route through our own infrastructure (no third-party trackers by default). Cookies are disclosed and minimised; we only use what we genuinely need to run the site. For clinical, legal or financial clients we tighten this further as part of the architecture work.
What about AI? Is my business data safe?
All AI-assisted work runs through tooling we control, not random consumer apps. We don't feed your business data into public training sets. The Star tier uses business-grounded models scoped to your operations — same principle, more sophisticated.

Pricing & switching tiers

Can I switch SOFAKING tiers later?
Yes — and we encourage it. Most clients start at Starter or eCommerce and grow into Admin or SaaS as the business does. The ladder is the point: same provider, same codebase, no rebuild tax.
What happens if my business outgrows SOFAKING?
That's when the bespoke Architecture practice takes over. We'll redesign and rebuild on a custom Next.js stack you fully own. Your case study moves with you.
Are prices fixed or do they go up?
Quoted prices are fixed for the term you sign on at. We may adjust published rates from time to time — existing clients keep their original pricing for 12 months on rolling stewardship plans. Discovery + blueprint engagements are fixed at £495 at quote.

Money & terms

How does billing work?
Build fees: 50% on kickoff, 50% on launch (or staged for larger engagements written into the blueprint). Monthly stewardship: by standing order or card, billed monthly in advance, rolling 30-day terms unless otherwise agreed.
Do you offer refunds?
We don't refund time. We do offer partial refunds on product costs — hosting, third-party tooling, dev licences — where they apply and haven't yet been consumed. If a build hasn't shipped, we'll work out what's reasonable based on stage. The honest path: tell us early if something isn't working — we'd rather fix it than refund it.
What about contracts?
For Stewardship: rolling 30-day terms, cancel any time with one month's notice. For builds: a written scope-of-work with milestones, signed before kickoff. For Architecture engagements: the blueprint document is the scope — fixed, written, and yours to keep.
Can I get an invoice for VAT / accounting?
Yes — every payment generates a VAT invoice automatically. Issued in the name of the company that's paying, with line items for build vs stewardship vs add-ons separated.
